Translations for imported vehicles

Sworn translations of documents needed to register imported vehicles in a short amount of time

If documents for vehicles imported from abroad are not in the Slovak or Czech language, you’ll need to submit them to the authorities with a sworn translation in the Slovak language.

What documents do the authorities usually require?

In order to register an imported vehicle from abroad, the competent authorities almost always require a sworn translation of the following documents:

• Vehicle registration
• Confirmation of vehicle deregistration
• Invoice or purchase agreement
• Vehicle safety/roadworthiness test (MOT) and exhaust emissions inspection (EC) — known locally as an STK and EK respectively
• COC (Certificate of conformity – proof of vehicle originality)

However, we recommend checking with the office you plan on submitting your documents to in advance whether a sworn translation will be required. Depending on the country, you may not need to submit translations of all five documents. Most offices require a translation of your vehicle registration and invoice.
